The fox population is nothing compared to what it was. a lot of them have moved into town but now the coyotes are doing the same thing.

Skin day of catch
Flesh tomorrow is fine. I find that's the best with coons.

Hello, I believe there are reasons why some don't post,
Some feel they have nothing positive to offer Some don't want to share their wisdom some are looking for free advice
and a host of other reasons known only to them
If you have a question, ask.

Remember one year it was cold, raw first day. worked along setting traps. went home and after dinner went out to check weather, snowing like all get out, got about a foot and a half, turned to rain next morning melted snow flooded everything, just keep going and do the best you can do.

Dear Mr. Emmi,
You omitted the most important question regarding the State of Trapping in the Adirondacks.
How does the Forever Wild clause affect the future of trapping in the Adirondacks.
Consider rewriting your questionnaire and presenting it in a more professional manner.

For two gallons of bait ; I would take about four good tabelspoons of SB and dissolve it in a cup of warm water than mix into my bait.

Volumes have been written about mink
If I am going to set a trap for mink my first thought is a pocket set. It is nothing more than a dirt hole set. You can make them wet or dry. I like bait , beaver being my favorite, muskrat second. A 1.5 coilspring is favorite trap, a #1 long spring will do just fine. Dig hole in slanting up if possible and no wider than the trap, pin bait in hole set trap with zero pan tension and you are in business.

Do you have a place to buy some? If so. I think maybe get a few wire stretchers and start there. They come I one size.

Had the pleasure of visiting with Gordy Berndt at NYSTA convention.
Old Dirt Hole Set Philosophy;
Hole had to be an exact size & angle, dirt pattern spread at an exact shape , only one set per stop and long distances between sets. etc.
Most if not all rules have been forgotten and or proved to be of little value.

Austin P. Your set reminds me of J. Curtiss Gregg's stream line set.
Not sure of exact name but believe I am close. Old memory.

also, most would not even consider making a leaning pole set with a foot trap. Dailey, Arnold and that generation of trappers considered it a mainstay.

Jim, I think so. I have heard it called different names.
Donnie Newton in Arizona called it the Government set.
I have heard it called or referred to as the original Trench set.

I don't remember where we got the Idea but we chipped out a trough type hole in the ice . threw a beaver carcass in and filled with water. it froze and some stuck out. set traps hidden in snow around the frozen in bait. another; dug a ditch six inches or so deep about six feet long. covered middle with log board something, dirt on top. bait in middle under dirt & log and traps set in ditch

My opinion but its a good idea to get your peat moss home , open it up and spread it out on a tarp to dry it out. It will work better for you as trap covering.

place the spring on a pipe or something similar . I have used a crowbar. now smack the bow with a hammer. careful you can over do it. this will strengthen a weak spring. Hope this helps . Ed.
