About 6-7 years ago it rained the entire first day. After about 12 sets I was soaked and quit. Next day I had 3 fox. I now set all day, rain or shine... K9s move on those dark wet nights.

Looks like a soaker Sat night, then clearing Sunday. Next rains are middle of the week for a couple days. Sounds like trapping season to me.

Remember one year it was cold, raw first day. worked along setting traps. went home and after dinner went out to check weather, snowing like all get out, got about a foot and a half, turned to rain next morning melted snow flooded everything, just keep going and do the best you can do.

Back a few years ago, I spent the entire first day setring traps, think I had about 90 traps set by dark. I was exhausted. Zagger called me that evening and asked me what I was going to do about the storm coming in?? I replied; what storm?
I'll never forget that conversation... He was correct and I even think that storm had a name - Sandy..
DISASTER!!!!! But we still managed..

I'm a big flat set guy they stand up to weather far better than a dirt hole Does. I try to run at least 50:50 but find myself closer to 75 flat sets to 25 dirt holes especially here in the northeast where you know rain and cold is coming. After those big storms like sandy if you have any sets left in good working condition the K9's will run wild the second it starts to clear off and that's when you see those flooded out dirt holes don't always shine over the flat set!

rain wouldn't be a problem up here in the general Watertown area... Lake Ontario tribs are so low it's tough to even float an empty canoe, let alone with gear. Gonna be forced to work water that has enough depth to float rather than just anywhere we'd like to go :/

With it being my first year and having someone trapping with/training me we are going out in the morning to set at the farm rain or shine.
Already have plenty of reds and coon on game cams and have seen coyote all year from may till september.
I want to mainly focus on fox and coyote so hopefully I don't have to wait to long to see them in the trap.

Setting canine traps in shorts and sleeveless t-shirt. Sandy hit, but it stayed mild through most of the trapping season.

I've said this for many years now: If you don't learn to work in the rain (and snow), you'll never get anything done in NY.
