Looks like a mighty good mink trap to me----Looks like there is enough space between jaws and pan not to have any trouble with jaws throwing foot clear----

Do any if you guys who use (double long springs on mink) have any trouble placeing the trap so the springs arent in the way? ? Or do you use them on land sets and burry them. ??

i use a few bill... not really my go to trap, tend to like the no. 11 more... generally bend the springs dog side and have the loose jaw toward the bank... bedding with the springs cocked tend to make for a stable trap for me... like i said the double long isn't really my trap of preference for mink, but everyone is different... sure don't shy away from them when setting if thats what i have in hand, that's for sure... jim

I've caught 3 mink in the last week with a #2 Blake & Lamb double longspring. They are my go to trap quite often, depends on the situation.

I love the double long spring for K9's---used the 3's and 4's for years--great bedding and hideing trap-----but I jest couldent see them for mink---guess Ill have to set a few this comming fall. All I can see in my mind is the mink stepping on the springs in a water setting. Is there any thing special you guys do ---like stepping sticks etc.---etc.

I usually place the loose jaw out so that's the jaw the foot crosses to get to the pan. On trail sets I sometimes use the springs themselves as guides for the foot. Those #2 Blake & Lambs are a great mink trap and I use them quite a bit on fisher. The springs lay over the branch of a tree perfectly and make it a nice trap to use on a pole set of a branch set

what are you talkin about jasper, stepping on the springs... know you know how to cock your springs with mink catches like yours ;D...
think im misunderstanding something in the question...how is the jaw spread any different than say a 1 and a half long with both the springs cocked to the dog side... some set types i wouldnt like to use or go to that type trap where the springs would get in the way like inside a tunnel and the springs couldnt be cocked, without providing a gap behind the trap and mink could pass bye... think a single spring or smaller coil would work better in that situation along with some other tight sets where they or one might get in the way...jim

OK...so the ole #2 double spring doesn't fit all situations. Sometimes ya need that space saving coil spring trap So as they say in Caddyshack............. YA PULL OUT THE OLD BILLY BALLOU !!!!! Victor #2 with flat baseplate and double jaw and a 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" mink pan....yes, it does clear the levers

nice looking trap tom... hard to tell not holding it in your hand but kinda looks like the pan near/ behind the dog would mostly be dead space not that it matters more than likely the way a person would set it for mink... but does it effect being able to do any file work for fine tuning, im kinda a fat file type guy.. now that close up ain't so clear anymore, like to lay them on the hump of the post so i hit the same spot on touch ups... cant really tell from the picture... jim

LOL..ya got me Jim. Made Bill a bunch of those traps but just recently thought about a mink pan for it. Just made that pan yesterday, put a quick clearance notch on it and put it on with DOUBLE SIDED TAPE. LOL
I didn't pay too much attention around the dog area....was mostly concerned with lever clearance. On the finished welded pan, hopefully Saturday, the dog side of the pan will be flush with the stock pan. I give it a good once over to make sure there will be on interference for file work around the pan. I appreciate your keen eye and I am grateful for your observations and ideas. Keep 'em coming !! ;D

OH---No ---here we go ----Yes Al is a senior ----as a matter of fact ---I have heard hes older than dirt it self. Some one told me that ---may-be it was Al. But back to the trap---isnt that a nice looking Mink trap---WOW---I think is a good discription.Pictures are hard to go with as both you and Tom have stated----but from what I can see looks like the kill area for "MINK" has been increased by about 50 to 60 %---(before any one jumps I SAID MINK)-------------TOM ---I THINK YOU HAVE A WINNER---- Looks good---WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO OFFER THE LARGE PAN. ?----jest between us---maybe if you offered a persons name on the pan---for I.D.

Jerry -----I think you may be mistaken ----Jim talks I listen---once in a while he will ask my opinion on something not very important ---jest to make me feel good. Said he was going to pack his new knife and come up and give me a hand with the beaver-----He wasent there this morning and we put up 13.----He will probably show up this afternoon and grumble about not having any thing to do-----after driveing 200 miles.Think I have a wet suit that will fit him---- we will try to get him to stay and check traps in the morning---he will need the wet suit. On cloudy or windy days, I sometimes have difficulty seeing a rat coni on a run. So I thought on these 110 stabilizers, I'd paint the top red and the bottom black. Most of the time the whole stabilizer will be underwater and this will make it easier to see for these old eyes . LOL The nut on the top can be used to tie it off to a bank or to loop a wire thru for easy off-season storage
