Good Idea------but would like it better on a sq. jaw #2 coil---- then you would be cooking with wood.---Ill even volunteer the first 4 dozen #2 sq.jaw coils. Of course Ill do the testing---and pay the expences.---Oh yes please bubble the jaw ends -in-case of a larger animal catch.

I like the idea, and use quite a few # 2 DLS when trapping Mink. We set a lot of culverts, and have found that for our style of mink trapping , a # 2 Square jaw Victor works the best. We attach 6 foot of 14 Ga. wire and a 5 pound window weight to it. Many of the Mink will be suitcased. The problem we see most is when a coon get's in them, the stock # 2 SJ as it comes out the box is a terrible coon trap, causing way too much damage. If you could make some that are inside laminated to get rid of that sharp edge, add the bigger pan, leave the chain as it comes, plus bubble the jaws, you would have something that would be deadly on mink or the incidental coon.Just my thoughts on it.
I think the base plate is a must----not only for coon---and extra--- drowning weight--- but we cough a few coyotes in them this year ---and the results were a broken trap---- I like the idea of the second jaw and bubbled jaw ends ---it will add a lot "OF" the above features to the trap---- the large pan I.M.O. would be the cherry on the cake.---Good idea Tom.
New guy has a question... (Gonna start trapping again after 25 years, so I'm really an old guy) - "Bubble jaw ends..." What exactly is that? #2 DLS is one of my favorite traps and I've never had one wrecked. I did have a couple of #2 Victor Sq. jaw CS's trashed (I guessed at the time it was by one of the farmers giant barn dogs) Does this mod (bubble jaw) only apply to Coil springs? Love this site! the end of the jaw that goes threw the hole and is bent up to hold the jaws in .the bubble is a weld on the very end that wont allow the jaw to be yanked out. usually by larger animals like coyotes ,coon ,otter, which may be none targeted in most cases. as for your last question any trap with the same jaw design can be bubble tipped with weld.
artie---- a good pair of pump plyers is all you need---jest bend the cross brace to your liking. ---I think Toms idea of the bigger pan will increase your catch of mink and musk rats by a good number ---- the rest of the improvements will hold enough coyote---fox ---fisher ---otter and beaver to make it ---- a very worth while investment. I know the #2 S.J. isnt concidered much of a trap but with the improvements---I think they will come into there own as a go to trap like the ---1-1/2 coil spring-- with the same improvements.
