If I may-----(this is ment to be helpful criticism) dont mess around get to the bottom line ---dont trap beaver with foot traps under a 7-1/4 inch jaw spread ( and make sure THEY are of good quality) ---- do the job--- you were hired to do --- dont wise up another colony of beaver.

Inside is legal per what I have had owners tell me.. Guys here.. MB-750s are listed as 7.5 inches.. That is outside,, I have measured those and they are NY legal.

Yes Duke #5's are NY legal. The 7 1/2" jaw spread listed is outside.
If there had been a tape measure or something next to this trap I believe I would have nailed it. As it sits I was going to guess a #2 Bridger.

they measure 7 1/4 inside so they are legal. i put out 2 dam breaks with the #5s, one castor mound with a 280, one ru with a 280 and finaly one castor mound with my duke/victor longspring.

artie-----=-First and formost------I am in no way saying anything against you ---- nor do I mean anything against you persionaly----I jest measured a bunch of Duke #5 double long-springs that I have hanging on my shop---they all have never been set ----- (new I guess you would say.)---not ONE measured anywhere near the 7 1/4 inch inside measurement----most were closer to a big 7 1/8. I am almost disappointed. ---though they were closer to 7 1/4.

hmmm......i dont own any so i cant say but i would have to say bill is right......i know you run 5s bill and i know you wouldnt break laws.....your a respected trapper, by me atleast......i understand you run both dukes and bridgers......i hear the dukes have more power?

centro44----you are correct I do use both the Duke and Bridger #5's------I have measured both more times than I want to remember-----I have never measured a #5 that is over the N.Y. legal limit----this topic comes up several times a year----and its my understanding some have had #5's that are over the legal size limit----but like I said I have had no problem with purchasing legal #5's----what the difference in jaw size is I have no idea. BUT any one who finds them selves with #5's with jaws to large of a spread can have Tom Stalker or someone else inside laminate them.--------Yes the Duke is built with heaver steel ( how many thousands I don't remember wright now)

I have noticed at times depending on where you look, some go by outside and some use inside measurement.I know some states do not allow changes in the trap to make them legal. It would be nice if the catalogs would state inside jaw or outside jaw measurement.I bought a couple Duke #4 rubber jaw coils.very HD and NY legal at 5 3/4".Would seem like a good winter hay set trap that is stout and reasonable.
