Monday I was checking my beaver sets and I came across a mink track in a fresh dusting of snow. it followed a small ditch through a culvert and into the swamp. My question is do mink use the same travel routes or do they just wander? I had a 160 and thought about setting a blind set but ran out of daylight.

Get back out there and put that 160 in that culvert, either that mink or another will be through again shortly. Good Luck!

I would do what the others said, set a trap in the culvert. Also you might think about getting a cheap headlamp for the times you run out of good light. I got mine from Walmart and it cost less than ten bucks, runs on two AA batteries, and really helps . Getting back to the discussion though, do you ever notice how mink often will travel right through a swamp or down the middle of a creek without once stopping at or going into a hole? They seem to do this regardless of the presence of prey species and what would seem like good hunting for them. Are they just traveling between a prefered known hunting area when they do that? I think they are, and that this indicates an established travel route, and a preference for the security of a home area.
