Anyone know if I legally set traps within the limits of a city?

Unless there is a local ordinance that forbids it you can. Just make sure that you stay at least 100 feet from any churches, playgrounds or schools unless you have written permission from the owner. Also, you can't set a trap on any public road, you can set the right of way if the l;and isn't posted however. here is a link to the DEC trapping handbook. www.dec.state.ny.us/website/dfwmr/wildlife/guide/trapping05.pdf

In the past local goverments have tried to restrict trapping.The courts have backed the DEC that all wildlife belongs to the people of the state of NY.Local laws can not overrule state laws.Just about every year someone introduces bills in Albany to give local goverments the right to restict trapping but this has never passed.
