Yep! BUT! I don't do it like NAFA , I throw the fox in the Borax tub and then use my fingers to work the cartilage out . Leaves a much smaller hole where the ear is and isn't a big ripped mess . Work the ear almost inside out then pull the back of the ear away from the inside and cut off afterwards .

Von...how much fleshing if any do you do to your fox and do you tuck your front legs in on your finished product?

yes I usually put the legs in . Fleshing? I do most all of it except gray fox in the borax tub w/ my fingers . Pulls off easy after putting the borax to em' I have a sifter just for sifting the flesh parts out of the borax tub.

Could you post a picture of the borax tub/sifter operation?

Really like the photos Von, IMO removing the ear cartliage and pinning the ears up make the pelt look some much better. Nice Job! And I did all mine this year with the Zip ties, that's a great tip.

I'll take a couple pics sometime tomorrow afternoon , I'm checking traps and working then putting up fur in the evening in a very cold building . AJ, started using the zip tie method some 30 years ago and has made a big difference . Last year I even used different colors and graded fur as i went , works great for putting on the hangers ------------for everything.

I have seen Von's borax tub/sifter and it is really just what it sounds like. He has a plastic bin with some Borax in it. He throws the pelt flesh side out in the bin and coats it good with borax. Then he goes and pulls off the flesh parts. As for the cartlidge, he coats them up real good with borax and then peels them back. They look great when it is done. Takes some practice but looks great.

If using wood, you can simply put a push pin at three oclock or nine oclock on each eye hole.....as the hide dries, the leather pulls and leaves two real nice eye holes for sliding your furhangers through.
I hang all canines upside down when drying. I comb the fur towards the head on the back and belly, hang upside down, and it dries that way, giving the illusion (early fur) or reality (later fur) of a fuller, thicker pelt.

If you put out a trail of cheese burgers from the door to the barn, she might make it out there to take your pictures. We should take a short video. I think a video would be better to show exactly what you do. I have seen it in action but I am not sure if I would have understood it in picture form. I am talking about a video of removing the ear cartlidge, not the cheeseburger trail
