Mike- I have been buying them as I need them. Last year I caught my first fox so I bought a fox stretcher and made my first beaver board. I borrowed a few wire stretchers from copper1 and used them to dry the opposums I caught. As I purchase them, I personally prefer wood over wire. Talk to JimD on here. He can give you a pretty good deal on an assortment that will match your needs.

as said wood is usually preferred over wire mostly because the fur comes out looking in a more uniform shape. accept for muskrats. the different brands however mostly use the same dimentions so there all very similar

A lot depends on your budget and space too. You can always start with a couple of each and freeze the pelts until you have stretchers avaialble as well. Depending on the temperature & humidity, you can dry many of your furs to where they can be removed after a few days. The warmer & dryer it is, the faster they can be taken off the boards.

I've had just about every brand wire stretcher on the market today. Only thing I can say is ther is no difference between the cheap ones and the most expensive stretchers. Dont buy an expensive brand stretcher thinking you're getting something special, your not. Its faster to put up fur on wire but you will get a more uniform looking fur on boards. I use both but prefer the boards. I like all my fur to be exactly the same width. this isnt important but it sure looks good to me.

Start out small, get a couple baords for each targeted animal, we use the adjustable baords that Orlando Brown sells right at the conventions from his tailgate.
