This year while checking my first trap line, I heard dogs barking close to where I had put some coyote sets! I was terrified thinking that I had caught domestic dogs in my traps. I had never seen dogs roaming the area before & was thinking that the lures I was using must have drawn them over. As I moved closer to where the sets were I realized that they weren't in the traps. As I moved closer to the barking I could see a pack of dogs on top of a ridge barking at something. Finally I saw what it was they were barking at! They had run down a buck that was so tired from the rut that it refused to run anymore but was staring down the dogs and ready to defend. At first I thought maybe the Buck was injured but I walked to within 20ft of it and looked it over. Once I scared the dogs off & the deer WALKED away, I searched the area for any sign of injury again nothing. Being the peek of the rut I am convinced that the dogs picked up the strong odor of the deer and ran it to exhaustion! The dogs were on my wife's families private property!!!

Wow. Thats something you don't see everyday. I know people that would have done worse to the dogs. Was it deer season? How big was the buck?

I had a simaliar incident while setting a mink set, heard a bunch of barking and looked up the hill to see a deer running w/ 2 dogs on its tail. The deer ran into and stood in the middle of the stream just looking exhausted and looking at me like well do something. The dogs stopped at the edge of the creek still barking and not even noticing me so i throw one of my 110's at them and off they went. The little button buck look at me again and just walked off in the opposite direction very slowly. Wish people would control their dogs!

I have so many pictures on my game cams of dogs that it is not even funny. I got 'em working "test" sets with different lures and baits and along deer trails. I got a picture of one that was HUGE. When I was down loading the pix, I thought it was a small bear! I zoomed in on it to be sure. By the way, I saved most of these pitures in my computer, just in case there is a problem. Not that I am looking for one. One thing I do not like in to come across in the woods is a dog. Worse yet is a "pack" of them. They seem to get that gang mentality.. Guess some folks think if your in the country, the world is your "leash" or yard...
