Wayne, the idea is good. What I did instead of using a cable lock on one end. I attached the one end to pole and used a cloths line tensioner to lock cable in place and makes it easier to release. Also used vinyl coated cable....Dave

Great pics! I made one years back very similar but I used copper pipe from the local hardware store and also a clothsline tensioner at one end.

Thats almost exact to mine except I used an end cap on both ends and ran the cable back through the end cap and out the side w/ a stop then wrapped it w/ duct tape. good job.

I'm with Dave on this one. Mine also has a clothes line tensioner on it with vinyl coated cable. Works very well. And with running the other end back thru the cap it keeps the loop open better.

Here is a different catchpole... It does not have to be this heavy but most of the materials I already had or were free. A few things that I think are important are... 1. The chain needs to be as big as the inside of the pipe so it does not bounce around. 2. The V at the end is very important. You want the V soft at the top so chain "finds" it. 3. The depth of the V needs to be deep enough to lock the chain with animal tension but not so deep that it loosens the noose when the chain slides in. So far I've used it on feral cats, raccoon and possum. Its been very solid so far. The EMT is 1" painted black, if I was buying the material I would use 3/4 EMT.
