I find that personally crawdads and honey work the best it all depends on what kind of set you are using hope this helps! ;D

I like to use fish or a sweet swelling bait for coon depending on the location. I seem to catch a lot in regular fox sets so I guess fox bait or no bait at all, just lure will work just fine too

Never tried them. I know a couple people on here use salmon eggs for bait however.

ive heard peanut butter smeard on a bridge wall will work. i hear chocolate bars rubbed on bridge walls works too. ive used jelly(grape) and have found a new lure put out by a local guy called "tempting treat" that is basically cherry jam thats really thick and i think he said it had raisins in it too....stays stuck to anything. its now my go to coon bait/lure. as with all my coon sets it gets a shot of fish oil as well-not the rank sun rendered fish oil. i prefer the mild stuff....

What about anise.... is that a 'coon lure or can it be used for lure? I have a small bottle and was wondering what it could be used for? Thanks for the help guys!

Anise is a decent 'coon lure. You can buy some marshmallow fluff at the grocery store and mix it with the anise or what I have use din the past is jack mackeral, anise or cherry extract and corn meal mixed togther. The marshmallow fluff is just a stickyer bait than using the cornmeal.

Honestly...I think bait made trapping them alot of fun...but have you ever tried night bandit coon lure? It is a thick pastey lure ...smells like licorice and honey and mallassas...I think thats spelled wrong...lol...anyway the stuff draws coon very well at water ways....just buy a box of popcicle sticks at walmart and put down in hole at pockets....
Canned sardines are good bait lure .....and when in fields trapping coon....pocket or stump sets are very good when sardines are used.... Course you will clean house on skunks and possoms!
Gang sets are in order then so as to get many animals per night.
A good fox set will always take the coon too! Andy

I think by and far my best coon bait is fish. I take the kids bluegill fishing in the summer and freeze a bunch up. Mike
