Well, everyone has there own personal opinions but since we are restricted by law to a 5 3/4" jawspread, #2's and a few #3's will work best. I like to use a 1.75 (1 3/4) if there is more of a chance of a fox than a 'yote but definatly bigger is better when going for the big dogs. I would really stay away from the soft catch, they hold to much odor and the 'yotes will eat them up.

Itny, thanks for the insight. I have about 2 1/2 dozen montgomery #2's that I used 20 years ago for fox but wasn't sure if they were large enough for yotes. I have never tryed trapping them before, but there seem to be alot around the area now. Thought maybe I could thin the population a little. thanks again, pockets

If you dont mind spending some cash, I would put baseplates and good swivels on them. They are a great trap but a little mods help alot

square jawed, square pan. I haven't ever tried modifying any of my traps before.

coyotes are pretty strong fighters, in my opinion its well worth adding baseplates. that way they pull on the center of the jaws instead of the sideand the trap wont bend in the frame

Great traps you will be useing....those Montgomerys are the best... I would however recomend the baseplates and new springs if needed....and for stakes...use the cable stakes...they are really the only trapping stake in my opinion. Andy square jawed, square pan. I haven't ever tried modifying any of my traps before.

I have never heard of anyone having good success with soft catch....I will never try them myself.....but I have heard of people taking off the pads and with some modification they are said to be good traps. Andy What is the right size trap for coyote? should I buy o/s or soft catch ?
