I personally think it is overkill. I have seen what it does to a deer at 50 yards when I was hunting in Massachusetts. When I hunt for fox and coyote, I used 12 gauge BB or BBB with a full choke. After talking to yetihunter, I probably wouldn't use anything else. I have also seen what a .270 rifle shell does to a coyote and it isn't pretty, at least at 75 yards, but I know a lot of people that hunt yotes with them.

Would 12 gauge 4x6 turkey loads be ok?

I think the 00 buck would be great for yotes, a 2 3/4 inch shell in 12 guage has only 9 pellets. The biggest thing is how well your gun shoots it . 9 pellets aint alot on winter coyote but will hit hard.my 22 mag works great about to 70 yards itll flop em over.try differant loads and see what works.

The way I look at it, if you are trying to save the pelt on a coyote, I think 00Buck would tear it up pretty good. A 22mag or 22-250 are good choices for knocking down coyotes farther than 50 yards away.

Work good on fox, ive heard that 4 x 6 seperate with the differance in weight and size. I know people have shot coyotes with turkey loads but i like knowing i have the power of the buck to hit the yote hard. Most shots while calling will be a frontal shot.i usually get 2 or 3 small pin pricks in the throat area and on fox will usually travel thru legthways of the fox and pellets will be under the hide by the tail.Front shot on a coyote they usually go about half way thru and tear up the vitals.Use what you feel comfortable with and your gun shoots well and find out what you like using. If you get into calling plus with your trapping abilitys i feel sorry for the fox in your area Jfish . good luck and have fun. Where do you live anyways?

Also you have the right idea on calling the thicker stuff jfish , your success will be higher and the critters come in easier.I am not a good shot at night at long range so ive gone pretty much all shotgun, i will take my mag out on moon with snow once in awhile.Always feel free to ask yeti hunter any questions about calling too , he is very good at his trade. How about you giving me info on how to catch a redfox ?I think they are smarter or alot more timid than a coyote.I hear alot about using real bladder pee but you need a carcass for that first.I want to trap 1 instead of call them in. good luck

Dale, Reds are far easier to fool than a coyote and you've already figured them out

Big dirt hole with part of road kill rabbit, trench stepdown style bed back about 7 to 8 inches , a little to the right, a clod of dirt on end of pattern away from hole with shot of urine ( i guess it gives you another chance when they walk thru your set if they dont like the hole they may mark on the clod}, a clod of dirt on lip of hole to partially block view, a q tip dipped in chain reaction thrown in the hole. Not fast to put in but works. If you like to catch coon and skunks plum loco is the ticket.Caught skunks in the weirdest places on that.Thats my limited knowledge. Good luck

Ahh the thick stuff ;D I love it... I primarly use a 12ga 3" BB's at night for fox/yotes. If I expect a coyote to respond I slip in #4 buck instead but everytime I do that a fox will come busting out but it still works... I personally would not use OO buck only because of the low pellet count, jumping to #4 buck you go from 9 pellets to 41)I think) then switch to BB's and you almost double again to around 70 pellets. The Remington HD 3" BB's are a hard hitting shell!!!! It will fold up a fox out 50-60 yards if your shotgun/choke combo is set up right. At night I started years ago with nothing but a 22-250, I killed a few but missed WAY more then that and the few I did kill sere tore up from it. Its a good round on yotes but for fox its over kill. Hope this helps a little... As for chokes you will just have to play with different ones to see how they shoot. My gun has a Carolson's Extended Full choke in it and it paterns well at the 55 yard mark with my 3" BB's
