whats the best way to stake off a foot hold set in the water when the bottom is all rocks and sand?

Depends on what you're planning on trapping, because of weight....There are several ways, you can wire your trap to a heavy rock, bring in a bag and fill it with smaller rocks, wire it to a root or heavy log, put it on a drag or if sandy, you can use soft ground cable stake ends.

Once again depends on what you're looking to trap. For muskrats, 14 gauge is fine while if for beaver, 11 gauge is best.

iam trying for coons there are tracks everywhere in a small creek near the house i put some buckets out today mabey they will connect . I want to try a pocket set thou. i will have to get some wire thanks for the advice

I noticed that you mentioned earlier that you live in Frankfort, please be sure that if you make any sets in water that you have an open mink, muskrat, beaver or otter season

you cant trap in water for coon until rat season opens?
