Nope wayne, they had a long ride in the back of the truck, and it's been raining here. Goning to let them dry out tonight and get some stretchers tomorrow and skin'em up. One was caught in a gang set (foot holds) baited with a deer carcass one was caught in a bucket set baited with skinned red squierles, and the 'coon was caught in a pole set baited with venison! HOT d@mn!!!!

Nice catch...Looks like a BIG 'Coon. Pole set huh? How big diameter was the pole to have that big fella climb up it? #220?

well wayne i thought you were kinda bustin' on me a little!!LOL I just thought i'd set yas strait!LOL This is what I've been trappin for, and it's great!! Let me tell ya why. I've been hunting in the adirondacks for 17 years, just got into trappin' about 4 years ago. All of my trapping adventures, excepte for my 'rat trappin' has been in the adirondacks. And, this year I ended up getting 2 deer in the mountains, and i got 2 mink. Now I thought that was a GREAT year! But then my buddy asked me to hunt with him the last day of black powder season here in the northern tier. I said ok. I shot a nice doe 1 and 1/2 hours into the hunt. Then he asked me to trap some fisher and 'yotes and this is what happened tonight!! What a year!!! OH, and buckhunter, the size of the pole that the big fella climbed up was only about 5" or so around. Maybe a little bigger, but not by much!!! I love it when a plan comes together!! how about yous??!! ;D

Those two were the only two I caught. I had one that kept messing with a cubby set that I couldn't catch. Oh well.... maybe next year.

Opening of the season in the portion of the Adirondacks I set was interesting(?) this past fall for me too. Relatively mild weather in the areas I was setting up for the first 3 days then 12"+ of wet snow from the big storm that came through.

Any tips you'd like to share would be appreciated. The timing seems to be most critical. Not too dry to turn the head but not to wet against the board either...

You hit the nail on the head Jim, it's all in the timing. If it gets a little too dry on me, I'll tie some jute twine around the nose area, usually through the eys holes and it really helps when trying to get that last little bit to turn.

Sounds like a good tip for something to grab hold of while trying to turn the head, thanks!

BTW, AdirondackTrapper2, looks like you've got a great trapping partner to share some future lines with you.

yep... she really gets a kick out of the critters that come home with dad. She Also loves the outdoors. Loves to walk with me while scouting for deer, and she went with me this fall to take out my moutain water line. She had a blast!!

when you turn a fisher or a fox i found it easier to start from the nose how do you folks do it...

I turned mine from the back end to the nose. When doing it this way timing is critical. One I left on the board to long and had a time trying to turn it, took me a hakf hour or better. Then the other one turn just fine. Didn't leave it on the board as long.
