Herm has hinted at me telling a bit about night hunts w/ coonhounds . He is way more qualified to tell it much better than I, After all he won the NYS championship w/ his dog this year . I enjoy all dog work whether bird dogs , beagles , terriers or hounds , A couple years back I traveled to England to watch and take part in hound and terrier work along w/ hunting w/ some lurchers . yep , it gets my blood flowing ! as far as competition hunting once or twice a week , NAW ! I'd be looking for another place to live , but I do love the sport and go every chance I can .
Its a first class gentlemens sport ( most of the time) and can get in the blood much like anything else we do . I've learned many of the dogs by name , sight and what they sound like on track and tree . Myself , I just aquired a Kemmer Mountain Cur which I have grown to like greatly in the last month . He trees coons and squirrels right proper but will never come up to the standerds of the hounds that I've seen in the night hunts . He may end up just being a great trap dog as he's already tangled w/ a couple of yotes in the woods . Loyal , biddible , and fierce when the need be.
Herm Flowers is a very modest person , he fights for whats right in NYS whether for trappers , dog men , or any who buy a priveledge to be in the outdoors . Its been a pleasure to meet and know of a man that speaks for all of us . I thank you for that Herm and really wish YOU would enlighten those on this sight of the great sport of hound hunting , you are way more qualified than I.
