Had quite the experience on Oneida Lake yesterday. We launched boat at Marion Manor and went fishing up past Sylvan Beach In the Canal & Up into Fish Creek. When we went to leave & the wind had picked up and the waves had become huge and nasty!! Tried to make a run for it but it scared me half to death! So we went back to the beach & I called for a cab to go get my truck/trailer. Cab never showed up?? So we made another run for it in the 16ft aluminum row boat. We were completely out of the water going over the Waves & taking on water when we came down. I was still twitching for almost an hour after we somehow made it to the truck! Never again! Guys were catching Walleye! The Mouth of the fish creek was hot! We were after northerns...Missed one just off the Canal but managed to get some pickerel & Bass.

I just said yesterday in a thread, thats why i stay on solid or somewhat solid ground !!! it would of scared the be jesus out of me too !! our little streams around here the walleyes are best fishing in november, and of course its hunting season then , so theres not many guys out fishing then !! But theres enough being caught threw the summer months, but with all the recent high waters the last few yrs the good holes are getting filled in !! but thank god you made back alright !!

rookietrap;
Yeah, oneida lake can be like that... growing up fishing on the lake...there have been a few scary times... what really sucks is when your out towards the channel of the lake with a row boat and the winds come in from the west all of the sudden like a bat out of hell and blows you three miles when your row'n your rear-end off.... lol... live and learn though...
I have yet to go out walleye fishin... this time of year i like to wade out with chest-waders down in muskrat bay road (brewerton)... there is a shoal that runs down towards a point....real shallow then drops, walleye, pikeral, bass... everything seems to hang out there....

Last night we were out for a few hours. I had one follow my lure in and 1 hit. I lost one and my girlfriend lost one because of a netting error on my part. She won't let me forget it. Tonight we went to the same spot and I caught 1 walleye and a small mouth bass. I had 2 follow the lure up and get scared by my head light. I am gonna look into buying a greed light head lamp. I'll be back out tomorrow. Tons of bullhead working shoreline and carp also but not as many.

Try some of the red lens paper they sell for flash lights and spotlights etc. I carry it and sell a bunch of it , maybe your local supplier might have it, you get 3 sheets like 4" x 6" for a couple bucks. Its not like the tail light repair stuff, this stuff is thinner paper. Don

Thanks. I did buy the green light one but it still scares the walleyes when they come close. I'll have to try a red lens om it. But it didn't scare this 19 incher. Really slow night. Fished from 9:00-11:15. Also caught a smallie that hit a smithwick not much bigger than him.
