Anybody ever start to hunt them before the trapping season opens? If so, how was the fur?

I'm planning on trying this year. I'll let you know how the fur is if I have any luck.

have never done any of my own calling until yesterday. was visiting the inlaws in lockport area and went out with my 7yo son. morning: saw two missed one. evening: called in one and conected. fur was nice and healthy but not prime. total time out there was about 20 minutes and i called in 2. in the evening i was shotgunning with number 4 turkey loads and whacked her about 45 yds out. the one i missed was about 75 yds out and as it was attempting to wind me it hit my scent trail where i walked in. as it headed for the next county i threw some buckshot at it hoping for a miracle. what i learned yesterday- yotes pay attention to wind religiously. if its not in your favor for your calling location- dont even try. anyway, my son is hooked, i guess i am too.

I have only called one in before. I was squirrel hunting and it came in to a squireel call. Season wasn't open then though.
