Ive never hunted coyote/fox at night. We've got quite a few coyote running but only at night. I was planning on just jumping right in. I own a .223, rabbit call, and spotlights - but was interested more on specifics. Calling amount, using rabbit squeal and/or coyote howl. Also Ive only got white lights are red lights neccesary? How do you use light - constantly on searching? Whats your normal night and does anyone hunt from their deer stands at night.

If your in a brushy areas you might be better off with a shotgun, loaded with #4 shot or larger. I use a 12ga, 3" # bbs, works well .

Use a shotgun. The .223 will do alot of damage. I shot 1 with a .204 last year and cut it in half. 00 Buck Shot does a good job. On the run you've got a better chance at hitting them and 1 or 2 of the buckshots will put him down.

I have not been in NY in 4 years but can you use a .223 at night for predator calling. I always used a 12 gauge but had a difficult time getting yotes in close. Always see the yotes out 100 or so yards with there yellow eyes and no come. The grey fox would come running. Red Fox occasionally. I really miss night hunting for k9's. Not legal in Tennessee.

I've been using a .222 and it seems to work real well. We get them to come in anywhere from 50 to 100 yards. That long range bullete sure is nice! I've never tried it with a shot gun.

Ive had a great year, my best ever, my totals are over 25 grey fox called and 9 yotes, plus countless more that came in unseen but left their track to add insult. If anyone needs any help or wants to trade info or tricks , let me know, i learn new things every year.
