So who's trapping this year, you all ready? Five days away. Even with low fur prices I'm looking forward to it. I toned it back last couple years, this year I will go as hard as this old body will allow. Good luck to you all!

Good luck!! I’m preparing for my annual trapping trip to Northern New York in early November!
(BTW Great post regarding trapping camp! Hope to retire in a couple years and will definitely volunteer…my son Colton had a great learning experience there! And if all goes well, I’ll finally close on the cabin near Rushford!)

I’m planning on trapping as much as possible. Picked up some new properties and planning on running more traps than I ever have previously. Just looking forward to getting out and removing some predators. Good luck to all this season and stay safe!!

first time I've dropped by here since last year... apologies for the PMs missed since then lol best wishes to everyone on the land lines, seeing road-killed fox and coon to biblical proportions all over the region here. Like never seen before numbers. I'll be in the water all season myself but pry won't start until December sometime. Epic drought still unbroken here across western NY so no idea what muskrat numbers might be. Some spots loaded and some empty would be my expectation. Even though it's a mere shell of former glory, scored two units on Montezuma that should produce at least a couple hundred late winter rats. Hopefully get real ice to walk and work thru this winter. I still miss my old partner Walleyed. Reports are he's been sighted at various tackle shops in Pulaski talking about the good old days for walleyes and steelhead. Might have to stop by his place and see if I can buy out his trapping inventory cheap

Got 16 sets in today. Was nice not to rush to try to get a bunch in, just took my time and enjoyed the day with a buddy of mine. Tomorrow after checking, try to get another one 12-16 in. Already looking forward to tomorrow morning………

My plans changed today. I picked up some new permissions this year, one being for beaver. Told the guy I'd be there nov 10th. Calls me last night, needs them gone right away under his permit as his culverts are plugged now flooding out his half mile long driveway. Good news is I get there today and him and his farmer buddies are using a tractor and hooks to unplug the culverts. I was going to have a few hours to wait for the water to go down. Both his farmer buddies gave me permission to trap their land, picked up another 1500 acres or so. Scouted them while waiting, actually got a half dozen canine sets in before heading back to play with beaver sets.
Doing the same thing here Tony, taking our time getting sets out, just enjoying it. No money in it this year (this beaver nuisance job will pay more than anything else I trap). I've got some nice water permissions this year, so plan on switching over to water eventually.

Kinda slow start so far. Caught 1 coyote (red phase), 2 red fox, 1 coon and 1 possum. Maybe this front moving in will get them up and about……

Beaver job taking all my time right now. Got three of them but spending alot of time clearing culverts for the owner, who is elderly. Hope to finish up in a couple days, let the rain we have coming pass, and get some canines sets out.
Beaver trapping in muck takes alot out of you when you get older!
