It's not listed in the July/August Trapper's Post Calendar of Events. By the time the September/October 2023 edition gets mailed, people will have what, maybe 10-12 days notice that it's on? IF it gets published in THAT issue. Flummoxed...

That would be my fault with running the gun show , Fenner and the convention plus going to other shows to have a presence out to the general public to tell them about the benefits of trapping somethings get lost like putting something in a magazine that has to be sent in 3 to 4 months in advance of the event is something you forget about because at the time it has to be set out I'm working one the event that is coming right up or paying the bill's for the last event or doing reports about it advertising is one of my weakest links and one of costliest if that's the right word and trying to figure out where we can get the best bang for our advertising money and getting the word out is what I've been doing for the past 3 or 4 years and we have had some of our best attended conventions in a long time with all that said why would I pay the trappers post $1200.00 for a paper the goes to give or take to 1200 trappers that should already know when the convention is when I can use that same money to advertise in a paper that goes to well over 3,000,000 people in the state. I know some of you will say just put it in the free part of trappers post well please reread the being of this and If you want to take over the advertising I'll be more then happy to let you take it over if not then shut the **** up I can only do so much and if your going to have hurt feelings over this to bad put your big girl pants on and come over and help out Bill Swagler

Bill....take a breath! Clearly the response of a guy with too much on his plate. Nobody has put this on you, you're a busy guy running all these functions. But where is your help? Simple things like updating the website with the convention dates, updating the FB site with the convention dates, maybe making a post here, on TMan, etc.....with the dates of the convention. Currently it's not posted anywhere! Is everyone so lazy that they can't take a few minutes and do this? Which would get a few things off the plate for you. Send me a poster advertising it, I'll get the word out. Is there not a convention committee with defined responsibilities?
It is so evident that some changes are needed.

Great job to any and all that are running the convention, since last week I've been hearing A LOT on local radio advertising the convention. Very much looking forward to it, I want to volunteer BUT (yes there's that rotten word) I have family commitments Wednesday night and Thursday morning, plus I'm still using a cane. Recovery is taking longer for low back & buttocks nerves and muscles than first expected. If there's anything that fits around my time and physical (in)abilities, LET ME KNOW. Thanks!

I will need help in the Check in booth on Saturday and Shelly and Linda will need help with the paperwork at the auction on Friday and Tom is going to need help at the NYSTA booth Friday and Saturday and they are all mostly set down jobs and hopefully your local PennySaver or Shopper should have an ad in it about the convention and that should be across the state it will very in size from paper to paper so If any one would like to help out just ask and am sure one of us can use the help Thanks Bill

Thanks for all you do Bill. This show is held every single year on Labor day weekend! By far, our favorite show each year.. This show has grown in size and popularity year over year, due to the dedication of a small number of men and women that devote a ton of their own time to the betterment of trapping!! What started out as a few of us camping out in some tents at some area shows, has turned into one of the coolest parts of this show, the Flatiron camp…. Anyone that is around, should stop by on Friday night, the camp has grown in size and popularity over the years and has become a staple at the show…. This year, a book that was putt together by the Flatiron crew was published annd will be available. A large quantity of cash is raised at the annual auction with all cash being donated directly to NYSTA…. This is above and beyond the cash that this show raises each year…. Looking forward to seeing old friends and hopefully making new ones….

Thank you Bill and all of the other volunteers and members who pull off this great show every year. Maybe I'm a little partial but it is by far the best state show we attend and set up at. Attendance and sales were amazing. With fur prices where they are it just proves what trappers are made of that they still support and participate in the sport they love. Thanks to everyone who stopped by the booth and got their book signed and made purchases, we appreciate all of you. Hope you all had a great time at the show.

Recognition needs to go to Bill Swagler who puts this whole thing together and works his @ss off on organizing and then setting up and tearing down. This convention wouldn't happen without his efforts. And to the Guidneys and Zagger and others who put the effort into the demo area. And all those who do the demos, man the NYSTA booth, help setup, teardown, earn money for NYSTA at the flatiron camp, etc...good on them! Myself, I made it up there on Friday for a few hours, but didn't have the time to help out as I had a large family camping gig in PA. But plan to change that next year. I basically drove 3.5 hours to buy some of Night Owl's lures...lol.
Nice job NYSTA!

I too would compliment Bill Swagler for doing a great job.I'm sure that I will miss someone, but my hat is off to the Gidneys,Zagger,Bob Sommerfield,Vahn Strahn, Tom DeLisle, Jim Carmody, and a lot more. Great convention. Great new book, hats off to those that put it together.

Very proud of our membership. When the time comes to step up they come together and get it done. Between selling lure and signing books you all kept us hopping at the booth Friday and Saturday. Great to see so many families and young people that were there together too. Everyone have a great season trapping now!

The books certainly seemed to be a hit.....we ordered a few more and will see if we need to in the future.
Like all organizations, 10% of the people do 90% of the work....but Swagler does a LOT of the 90%!
I hope to do more with the NYSTA at a higher level sooner than later, but that time is not now. In the meantime, I do what I can........
