They are a better teacher than anyone could imagine compared to what you can buy in instruction. Spend 500 in a dog that lives 15-20 years and gain so much more than a basic course or trappers education. That is, if you have the gumption for trapping.

I've used dogs to hunt and as a companion, they pick up quickly what you're up to when trapping. "Caught" a lot of critters by watching how they react, got a few bonus cats of all kinds every Airedale I have had hates cats. I have really enjoyed my time spent with our dogs even after their arguments with Porkys, which they never win!

God bless my old shorthair. He could never tolerate porkies!!! He went after them right up to the end. At 13 yrs old, he was at the Vet for quills around his eyes. That was the 6 th time he got stuck. I could usually take care of it myself, but didn’t want to chance it with his eyes. He lived to be 15. Great grouse dog and trapline buddy. Always came along on the line and let me know in advance if I had something.

Never had to deal with a porky in Ohio, but did see some badger holes while scouting. That’s my speculation lol. Buddy of mine caught one in northern Ohio a few years ago

We had airedales when I was a boy. Wonderful dogs. Ours hated cats and so do I.
