The May/June issue of the Trappers Post has arrived and AGAIN there is NO REPORT from the New York State Trappers Association. Officers and Directors are supposed to place a report in the issues of the newspaper, but that requirement has been ignored for a long time. "NOTHING TO REPORT" is a cop out! Where is the news about DEC,surveys, fur sales, JTI activity, pending legislation status, and more? Why should I be a member if I hear nothing from the association? The quarterly newsletter was abandoned years ago because of costs.Leadership just does not get how important communications are.and pull their heads out of their a*@*s ! County Reps are supposed to report back to their groups, but that does not happen either.

It is interesting that the local/county groups always have a listing but nothing from the main association.

I am not trying to brag, but I have been a member of the New York State Trappers Association for 56 years, beginning back in the Piseco Lake days. After The organization outgrew Piseco Lake and went to West Winfield. From there it grew into one of the most outstanding sportsmen organizations in New York. I have held every office, except treasurer, at one time or another.I am the only President that was not elected, but became President when the President resigned. I also served as JTI Committee Chairman for just under 25 years. I also was the first President of the Foothills Trappers. My point is that I care about the organization and I am saddened by what it has slipped down to. I still have a sheet giving the duties of the officers and directors. Regional Directors "should also write a newsletter in "The Trapper" (now the Trappers Post) every month".This also apples to County reps "when something important comes around". " The Secretary-Treasurer keeps Directors and people listed in the directory informed on state matters". It Also is assumed that the President and Vice President should also submit articles. These duties were published way back when Pete Smith was President and Bob Hughes, vice President. The directive was signed by them. When if ever did these guidelines change??? My feeling is that if you can't fulfill your duties that you should step aside. As a member I am disgusted that we hear nothing as to what is going on and it is the DUTY OF THE OFFICERS< DIRECTORS< AND COUNTY REPS to keep the membership informed.

I agree with everything you're saying Al. It has to change.

It’s a downright embarrassment. It’s a pity.

Also, the NYSTA website is pathetic and not kept up todate. There are things on there dating back to 2020. They are fooling around for years and still do not have a good site! Look at the sites for other states like Pennsylvania, etc.

ANOTHER THING! Another thing wrong with NYSTA. Why is it that NYSTA has a NTA Director that went to the NTA convention, but failed to attend any of the meetings? ? NYSTA needs to get rid of him and replace him with Jim Carmody who proudly represented us at the NTA for many, many years.Shame, Shame. Also, only one of the Pat Arnold youth trapping camps will operate this year because of lack of staffing from DEC. I bet Pat is spinning in her grave. Again shame !
