Well after relating the way fisher have been destroying maple sap tubing around this area, here's an update: NO fisher around since I put the trail cams back up the week before trapping season began. Raccoons (I've got 6 of them now), red and grey fox, coyotes, turkey, deer deer deer and more deer. NO fisher. Not a single sign of fisher - pics, scat, tracks, nothing, not even in the snow... So I got talking with some neighboring farmers, and one told me that he found a dead fisher late summer, partially decomposed, and he saw something that made him check out the carcass instead of just giving it a pass. Something light blue poking out from the guts caught his eye. He went over and pulled out a 3" long piece of maple tubing. Probably what killed it. It's sad, I hope the rest of them didn't meet the same demise. On the bright side, once new fisher move into the area, hopefully they don't have the same bad habit of chewing the lines.

That figures... one day after posting the "update," today's trap check showed 2 separate sets of very large fisher tracks (about 10 inches of snow drifted in there) investigated one of the cubby sets. The entrance was drifted over so neither one figured out where to go in. But they took off in a different direction from the cubby than usual, across a field instead of continuing along the stone wall running through the wooded areas. I think they came along at different times although the tracks looked like they were travelling together. Unfortunately no camera in that location, it would be interesting to see if they were.

Also makes me think that's a good location for more than one set.
