I have had my Nuisance Permit for a few years but have not gone out in the field and used it to my advantage. I trap for sport but looking to use my permit for a financial standpoint. Coyotes have been a common issue in my area (Hudson Valley). As per the guidelines for trapping coyotes on your permit you need to prove that the coyote is a nuisance. You would have to contact the DEC for a special permit. That seems excessive. Was wondering if anybody on here has any experience trapping coyotes for customers and how they went about it. What information I would need to provide the DEC in order to trap a coyote, or just go to a homeowner and set traps and catch them. Seems like calling the DEC is a waste of time between holding and being transferred. Hoping to have better luck on here! Thank you all in advance.

The landowner needs to get the permit, then they can contract with you for removal. The landowner needs to explain and perhaps prove the coyote is an immediate threat to them, their livestock, or dwellings.

Just to continue what trappermac has stated, the landowner, not the NWCO, the tenant or leasee, must request the permit. Once the permit is issued the LANDOWNER can then contact anyone he desires to do the trapping and or hunting depending on what is listed on the permit. The only stipulation is that the person doing the trapping and or hunting must have a current trapping license or hunting license if hunting the coyotes. Because a NWCO license is not required, NWCOs can sometimes price themselves out of a job. DEC officers refer landowners to NWCO they have listed for areas local to the landowner if the landowner request a referral.
