WOW, I learned quite a bit this evening that I need to share with all my sportsmen friends in N.Y. There is a very dangerous bill that has been introduced into both house of the legislature.
Senate bill S4253 Martinez, and Assembly bill A9775 Glick.
It will make it unlawful to organize, sponsor, conduct, promote, or participate in any contest, competition, tournament, or derby where the objective of such contest or competition is to take wildlife.
This is includes anything and everything. No fishing derbies, deer contests, turkey, coyote, woodchuck, you name it, you can't.
I'm told that it will be going to be on the agenda in the next Environmental committee meeting. This is where it's voted on by committee members to advance the bill. Possible next step, heads to the floor for a vote.
I'm urging everyone to call the encon committee members and voice your concerns. We really need to pound it to them. This is our chance to show how powerful and united the sportsmen community is.
Thank you all...

This proposed law is so wacked out. Say you entered a big buck contest. This would make it illegal for you to shoot a deer, but if you went deer hunting anyway and you shoot one and walk up to it and it was not dead you would now be required to take it to a vet or a wildlife rehab. Never mind the fact that you would be braking other laws like transporting wildlife, maybe crossing posted land to get the deer as you would be required to do and the fact that you did not tag the deer because you are taking it to a vet and not harvesting the carcass.

I disagree with proposed bill, but where is it legal to cross private land to recover a wounded deer without landowner permission ? Not in NY.

AMEN, squash. ONLY if the landowner refuses entry, can an ECO then accompany the hunter onto said landowner's property for the sole purpose of recovering the deer.

I agree herm, its like a child wrote that, it makes no sense. Probably make the bill less likely to be taken seriously, good for us.

Speaking for myself, herm, I wasn't disagreeing with you. If anything, because I've had so many (literally 100+ times over the years) big issues with trespassers, it's a knee-jerk response to vent whenever I'm "triggered" by the subject.
