Leaders don't pile on. They pull people off the pile and straighten things out, deal with each person appropriately, generally privately. Leaders build up other people, not themselves. And they don't tear down others. Have a problem with someone, this isn't exactly the place to address it, in fact a brief perusal of forum rules will back that up. Leaders influence, they don't intimidate.
I don't have a dog in this fight. I'm no one's defense. But seems to me other statements have been made on here about what would new people do when they found out blah blah blah, well new people are seeing this discourse unfold. How's this infighting setting with them, do you think? Think they figure "oooh, YEAH, I GOTTA get me summa DAT crap!!! I LOVE being publicly ridiculed! Masochism 101 was my favorite class! THAT'S LEADERSHIP!!!" How is it that someone can be praised for possessing "strong leadership," and then demonstrate the polar opposite? Anyone wanna "serve" with someone knowing that the result of a disagreement will be public chastisement?
Go ahead, flame away, I'm no part of any cult of personality, just me. I'm pretty sure this could lead to this post being my last. I cut this far short of what I had intended, because more would only have the effect of Greek Fire. Besides, I already know who's gonna say what. History here is quite clear.

To answer TMC's question; this is not the first time money has been stolen from NYSTA by a treasurer. When Gamba's name was brought up as a replacement for Black Bart I was uncomfortable with interviewing him and did not go. Glad I didn't. For Mr.Walleyed, I have read with interest the back and forth here. I've said enough.

I DO miss the fishing opportunities in front of me.....as most will agree, the Eastern Basin of Lake Ontario and its tributaries, combined with the Finger Lakes, Oneida Lake, St Lawrence, etc. is arguably one of the best fisheries in the states or probably even beyond that.....
You can't do it all, and when I decided to be mad and ducks and geese and coyotes (Gina says that...."Mark is mad at coyotes right now") (But I am NOT mad at them!) combine with career responsibilities, etc.....well, I had to hang up the fishing gear.
I doubt you can leave Central New York for greener pastures on the fishing front? From native brookies to the next World Record Musky in the St Lawrence, to all the salmon and trout, small mouths, 10 lb walleyes in Ontario, northerns, and unending ice-fishing opportunities, where else would you go?
I guess if you are mad at huge largemouths in number, this aint the place.......short of that, we've got it all..............

Went to a NYSTA Director's meeting today, and am glad that I went. For me it cleared up a number of things that I was unaware of and I saw several positive motions passed. It is far too easy to criticize behind a computer screen with out knowing the real story. I am guilty of that and being an armchair quarter back. I was most impressed with the Officers and Directors present and the various jobs they are doing to keep NYSTA moving forward.

AL!!! DETAILS?!?!?! Or do we have to attend to know what's going on?!?!?! "Pass the bill to know what's in the bill?" Uh-oh, super secret pinky swear, now beholden to secrecy forevermore... Sorry, yes, just kidding, only trying to point out that it's usually NOT a matter of trying to keep others in the dark. NOT about "WTF is it worth to have blah blah blah if nothing gets done?" sort of stuff. And yeah, me included. Just sayin' Al's post is a bullseye for bringing that to light. No details, but look how encouraging it was, all because he went and saw first-hand. Shooting myself first, because I'm only 16 or so miles from the Herkimer site. Because one guy took the initiative. Thanks, Al!

I also attended the meeting. Actually sat directly behind Al. First time at a meeting and it was quite educational. In my opinion the Directors of NYSTA got hit with a lot of crap all at once. And just like with any natural disaster you can’t rebuild overnight. But I firmly believe with every fiber of my being that the people that make up the board of directors are doing everything that possible can be done to improve things and move forward. To a person they all care very deeply for the NYSTA and its membership as well as the 90% of New Trappers that are not members. If anyone wants to know what was discussed at the meeting please send me a PM or give me a call anytime. 585-402-9081. But cut those people some slack

What is with all the secrecy? The NYSTA seems to be the worse trapping club in the country. They tell their members nothing. "if you want to know what is going on then come to a meeting".... what kind of crap is that?

Nuts! The cat is out of the bag, I was at the Director's meeting yesterday. First, let me state that there is nothing said at these meetings that is a deep dark secret. Lately I have been very critical on a couple of issues, but I'm learning that sitting behind a computer making negative comments accomplishes nothing. As far as what took place, I'll comment on a couple of things: I did complain that I and many others are unable to get on the NYSTA website. In turn I was met with a extremely long. list of excuses and finger pointing. I've heard that before, however I'm pleased to report that a motion was passed to get rid of the present site and go with a new professional created site. Lack of communication with our members has been one of my biggest complaints, but let me point out that many years ago when I first got involved, that Officers and Directors were required to submit a report in the trapping newspaper. Gradually that has faded away, but it is very much needed because in most cases that is the only news members get about NYSTA. Another good report that I can forward is that NTA, FTA, and the Sportsmen's Alliance are all working cooperatively together. That's all that I will report. It was great that Mark,Les, and Jim attended the meeting and all provided quality input to the meeting. I also got an education as the reasons governing my complaints; for me that cleared up a lot. Every man there is a dedicated trapper looking to preserve and improve trapping in New York. I'm as guilty as anyone, but negative comments on social media does none of us any good.

MZ my friends have caught legit weighed 7+ pound largemouths in Conesus, Keuka and Cayuga. Others report 8+ lb green fish caught too. Cayuga is likely to be the next state record largemouth catch now that they discovered newly arrived gobies there. My occasional trapping partner and his bass tourney partner cashed a check with a comma in it for a 25+ lb 5-fish bag off the south end of Cayuga in late 2018.

New York is a fine state for many things. Fur trapping is good to mediocre to sucks, depending on where & what.
The point to one man catching nearly 1,000 coyotes across the midwest was meant to compare coyote trapping potential there vs east far as numbers. Along with average pelt values.
A FB friend in southern Iowa caught over 1,000 coon this season along with hundreds of incidental muskrats & mink and some coyotes. This is the 10th straight season he has trapped 1,000+ to 2,000+ Iowa coon, along with piles of other fur. Do you know how many 1,000 a year coon men there are in NYS? Zero.
A FB friend of mine, in his 20s still, broke 4,000 (that is four thousand-plus) muskrats for this season in Michigan. He has until March 1st to reach 5,000 this year and feels good about hitting that. Do you know how many 5,000 or even 4,000 muskrats a season guys we have here in NY? Zero.
Hips don't lie, stats don't lie. There are far greener pastures for wild fur in other states than here. No need to get all turnt over that fact as the kids like to say. Why do y'all think east coast canine trappers spend their entire season out in the southwest chasing high dollar coyotes and cats, instead of $5 red fox?

Al, I do not see why that when the website is repaired that along with the Trappers Post insert from NYSTA that each time we have a quarterly meeting that the BOD's insert the highlights of the meeting.
