caught many reds and grays in #220s back in the coon trail days. I've been scouting creeks and ditches in the southern tier, to say they are laced with fox tracks is an understatement. Looks like fox superhighways along every flow, high populations down there.

Personally, I thing that Coyote numbers are way down. With the increased Fox sign everywhere, and the lower number of Coyotes catches I made this fall, I see a turn around.. Anybody else notice or think this??

Anybody else notice or think this?? Ron coyote numbers down here too... pry a number of factors including diseases and heavy pressure from callers Jan thru March. Taking out bred pairs en masse with canine contests. The couple of veteran canine trappers I know here in Genesee Valley region had high fox catches - low coyote catches this season.
no shortage of otter, bobcats or fisher... all are everywhere, fwiw

Everything but raccoon populations are up around here, both the farm and the home orchard. Raccoon sign is the scarcest I've ever seen since I started back in the 60s. I caught one, which was stolen at the same time a fisher was stolen. Otherwise, nothing. Only a couple (literally, only two) very small scat piles at places where it usually looks like a friggin outhouse, and only once, before season began. Since then no scat, no tracks. But the canines across the board - coyote, red fox, grey fox - way up. Fisher has been high and holding steady. Deer - I can't see how they're not dying off, their numbers are off the charts. One of the small hayfields up on top of the hill at the farm, about 7 acres, good luck finding an area the size of a dinner plate where the snow hasn't been pawed off by deer getting at grass. Mink are about average numbers, muskrat are back and making small gains but at least they're gains not losses. Weasel, rabbits, red and grey skwerlz - all up. Mice, voles etc. of all kinds - right up there with deer. No bobcat sign this year, but they're usually a little scarce around here. lol I guess I've submitted my field report.
