Today while checking the line I saw boot tracks in the snow. All over the place. Definitely hunters, MOST definitely trespassers. I get to the set where a few days back a big fisher had escaped the 155 in the cubby, where I set the #2 DLS as a backup, and - I HAD a fisher... and some miserable scum sucking SOB! stole it.. in the snow fisher tracks, AND boot prints. several sets farther along at a DP, same deal, HAD a raccoon but also stolen. This is along the property line with "brothers 58 & 61" I wrote about in "Permission Dilemma." I called the DEC officer, "can't do anything today, we're up to our eyeballs with game violations all over the place." I don't have time to call the neighbors, and didn't have time to follow the rat-bastids because I am already almost late to leave for our family Thanksgiving dinner today at a sister's house in Fayetteville. IDK... it just enrages me. There are only two possibilities where the $*^*%*&s could have gained entry onto my land and I trust those neighbors, BUT they give permission to a lot of guys to hunt because of the deer overpopulation problem there. On ONE game camera, I've got pics of 1 10-point, 1 9-point, half a dozen 6-point (well 5 now, I took one), and a lot of 4-pointers and spikes as well as scads of does and fawns; on several pics from that one camera, as many as 8 does and fawns at a time. So yeah, too many deer, but NO ONE has a right to be a rotten scambalsted trespassing fur-stealing poaching %$*&*%%P^&!!!! GAH!!!! ...rant off... well not really but gotta GO...

BOHICA !!!!
Looks like a personal visit to the neighboring land owner accompanied
by the ECON Officer/Game warden is in order.
He'll know who was on his property to give you a starting point.
Any chance it was the anti-trapping brother retaliating for you having
trapped "his" fisher and raccoon that wandered off "his" property ?
My blood would be boiling too, along with your private property being
violated and your legally trapped animals being stolen.
sorry this happened.
Main reason I don't land trap during deer season up here.

my reply would be, "well in that case I might as well go stack up untagged deer like cordwood, day on the trapline is shot but no danger of being checked by wardens with a truckload of dead deer today, now is there?"

Just got home from family Thanksgiving dinner. With 4 brothers 5 sisters and their spouses/significant others, plus 32 nieces and nephews some of them married, some with kids of their own -- well let's just say I was happy to get there and happy to leave. Bob, I personally don't think it was any of the landowners themselves, especially not the anti-trapping "61" lol, because he doesn't hunt and it would be extremely unlikely for him to be afield on a day like this (good weather, too busy) OR cross onto my land. The brothers are hard working guys, the only days that family ever takes off are Christmas and Easter. But not Christmas if it's a week day, seriously. They've been that way for at least 4 generations, I respect that family. They are wealthy, yes, but no one can begrudge them one single cent. They've earned what they have a dozen times over. Thanks Mac, I hope so too. nyrat, I hear ya, but THIS particular EnCon officer has in the past ALWAYS been someone I can count on. Until today lol; kinda like winners always win until they don't? The other neighbor bordering to the east and north - maybe. Not likely either, but maybe; his sons on the other hand - meh. Possible-to-likely. But I still lean toward it most likely being someone to whom either neighbor gave permission, OR just as possible someone from beyond their borders who trespassed over a lot of other properties to get to mine. Before I bought this particular property from my father many long years ago, "someone" (he and his son are now dead but I didn't do it I swear) snuck in the back way via the old road ("Old Unadilla Road" - sounds like a good name for a beer lol) that was abandoned back in 1854, the centerline of which is our back line. He had to use the old road back then to cross several other properties to get to my father's, and he logged off the trees I had planted for my father, back when I was a teenager, for my dad to have as a cash crop in his old age. So, it's entirely possible that the same pack of miscreants is back to being good at being no good. Tomorrow afternoon I'll call on both neighbors and talk frankly about this crap. I've spent a long lotta years having to play the Marshall, the bad cop, to finally get the law laid down around there that NOTHING about trespassing or theft of resources or poaching would EVER be tolerated by me. I thought it had finally taken root and the bad apples were eradicated or at the least driven back down their holes far enough that they'd pop up in China instead of here lol... I guess that other think I've had coming arrived on the 10:15 this morning. Anyways, whether it was them or someone to whom they gave permission, they themselves are equally culpable under the law. If it was them or theirs, and if the cops don't do anything about it, my lawyer will be sending letters to each expressing my intentions of suing them if it's not resolved to my satisfaction, i.e. "KEEP OUT MEANS YOU." Sorry for the ongoing rant. But you don't see a hornets nest calm down too quickly after being smacked with a broom, either.

Heading out to church soon but spoke with both of the adjacent farms. And yeah, I trust them; both said NO ONE has been out except the one day, one guy, and I saw him. His tracks never crossed the stone wall/fence. I know when he got there, when he shot and got a doe, and when he left. The other owner said no one that has permission has been in town yet. But "58" did tell me that from a few weeks ago they have game cam pics of another neighbor's grandson (property on the other side of them from me), a known long-time bad apple, thief, poacher, and small-time drug dealer, running his 4-wheeler across their property heading toward mine. Anyways, I hope to get more cameras up and to have them properly placed. Might be time for a drone, too lol! And no, not just for "surveillance," maybe a more powerful deterrent.

It is a tough time on the trapline during deer rifle season. I have a great public place for fisher & cats but refuse to set too early because of lack of primeness. I usually try the beginning of Dec so that I have a little time to tag a fisher in a cat trap and visa versa. In my area too many hunters to have traps out and then by the end of deer season the ground may be starting to freeze up.

I really hate having to confront my own self lol; getting honest WITH myself, ABOUT myself... cognitive dissonance. I've always had this, IDK, "THING" that if a job is done thoroughly, properly, completely and well, then it is DONE. But oddly enough you just can't lump everything together like that (yes I'm being sarcastic at me) - for instance, killing the chicken-killer dog is a permanent fix, a one-and-done "job." For that one at least, until another comes along and takes its place. But then there's other stuff - mowing the grass, plowing snow, cooking, cleaning, making the bed, et al... cyclic, repetitive, never done unless you just choose to not do it anymore but the results (consequences?) are unacceptable. Well, for most people lol... Putting in new fence, putting on a new roof, plowing/planting/cultivating/harvesting, all that sort of stuff, falls into the "permanent" category even though they're also repetitive, just at much longer intervals. Then there are these things called, Pee-Pole. Humans. Totally unpredictable, yet 100% predictable. No two alike! And yet all the same. A concept which cannot be taught, only absorbed. "If all of us were the same, all but one of us would be unnecessary." And yet I think just because I've established clear rules, why of COURSE problem solved, never gonna be another day of trouble ever again, yee-HAH! But no. I guess that's why there are laws, AND "law enforcement." And why locks only keep honest people out. When I was 7-years-old, I learned/memorized a maxim written by Francois de la Rochefoucauld: "Men cannot comprehend those faults in others they themselves have not." He was a man of great wisdom, you'd all really find his stuff a great read. Don't worry, it was translated to English centuries ago My point in all this is, you don't even have to tell me the rules about your property, I'M NOT GOING TO TRESPASS. It's not in my DNA!!! I'll never be there unless INVITED, FIRST. (no I'm not a vampire) If we're gonna talk, I'm staying on my side of the line. So I figure, after maybe 18 times of catching the same PeePoles and A-Holes and having law enforcement there and - GAH!, doing EVERYTHING right, that maybe just MAYBE the point is driven home. Because I expect the same as I give. Because I cannot comprehend that kind of thinking or behavior. Because it ain't in me... conversely, trying to "comprehend" them and their faults is a dangerous endeavor: What if by trying, I CAN, what if I DO, eventually comprehend? To me it means that I'd then HAVE those same faults and will have become "them." So I don't try to comprehend. Yet at the same time it drives me crazy trying to understand them, why they do what they do!!! Enter The Golden Rule: "Do unto others as you would HAVE them do unto you." Not one mention that they'll respond in kind. The responsibility to take the high ground is solely, squarely, my own. True for each of us. We can't control anyone else, only our own thoughts, attitudes and actions. But amazingly we generally DON'T bother trying to control ourselves (oh so HARD a task!), and yet try to control others! So I figure I've got some changing to do. Stop trying to understand, accept that it's going to happen in spite of best efforts, and keep on going forward. IDK... you're sort of right, Bob - BOHICA!!! Sorry, must've been something I ate at breakfast a few hours ago. Got me all philosophical and verklempt. But this too shall pass. - Tim, over and out.
