In late August, we made our bi-annual trip to the ADK Museum, located near Blue Mountain Lake (we flip-flop between the museum and the Tupper Lake Wild Center). If you have never been to the museum, I would highly recommend a visit…lots for the entire family. In addition to the logging, boating, early park history, art, and mining (), there was a nice trapping display I wanted to share with you. Below are a few picts…the picts do not do the museum justice (well, maybe the taxidermy)! View from balcony. The mounted animals are part of a different display. We left the display with tears in our eyes…laughing so much! Wish I had some mounts to donate! I will, however, be donating a nice mineral collection. Seeing I fought with photobucket so much to download these picts…and because this is the photo section of the forum (the trapping picts will be posted next), I’m including a few more from our trip to the museum. We stayed at a friend’s cabin in the ADKs for the week. The camp was on the Raquette River and close enough for me to commute to work each day. …hope you don’t mind all the fish picts! They were all safely released. Over the past few years, Colton has really excelled with fly fishing and tying his own flies! Note the spikes and electric wire to keep bears away…needed to keep shades down when we were not around. Colton’s flies (he is getting real good at spinning deer hair) …and not to leave Carly out…these are from our camp on the St. Lawrence River (and nearby Grasse River)… Snoozing… Carp tournament Carly came in 2nd in her division and Colton missed the podium by ounces…and most fish by one! …and even the wifey got in on the deal! That is some great lifetime family fun for sure. I love the native brooktrout and their colorations.
Another good place to visit with the family is the wildlife museum:

Thanks for the place to check out salmonrun! I have a project site not too far from Amsterdam...I will fit it into my next site visit!
Trappermac, I cannot come close to Colton's deer hair flies...his fingers are much smaller and nimbler than mine are these days! One of our goals this past summer was to catch a carp on the fly. We tried but didn't have any luck. Next year!
