So how is everyone doing with this lake effect? Got about a foot here since early AM....still coming. Shut down the deer hunting on the state land I border...yesterday the area was loaded with cars...today its quiet, no plowing in there and nobody wants to drive in. Besides, visibilty sucks with this wind.

We had a dusting at home and 5 mins up in the mountains about 4 inches. High winds made white outs from snow coming off trees. Hunted the majority of the day. Only saw a couple does in heat but couldn't get a look at any bucks.

I am in Hamilton County, forecast overnight was 4-6. I woke up to about a foot and been snowing crazy all day; the boy and I pulled our traps in a blizzard and got out of camp in late afternoon. They expect another 12-16 until 7 pm tomorrow.
This blew my Thanksgiving week plan of hunting/trapping near Speculator....
My four wheeler was all over the trail trying to get out where I park my truck. We cleaned out camp and headed to home... Sad !!!

Sullivan Cnty was calling for a dusting, we got 8".. Kind of nice though, I followed yote tracks go right up my line passing by 3 sets before investigating the 4th, she was waiting for me when I got there.
Edit on Monday Morning; forecasted for another dusting overnight, instead we get another 8"...at least these guys are consistent.

more than two feet up on the hill at my place....our elevation always causes us to get more than the flat lands below us. Guy came up Sunday AM and said he had green grass at his place and we already had 4-5 inches....and he lives about 5 miles from me. We are like a mini-Tug Hill......
As always, in trapping AND weather, everyone else has it better than me and no one has it worse!!!! LOL
Every time I lament about the weather I remember those poor SOB's in Oswego County and up Mexico way.....they scoff at my snow fall amounts!

I believe where I am in Hamilton County the elevation is a big-big factor on dumping snow on the mountain. There was 16-18 inches on the ground yesterday at 3:00 pm and still like a blizzard.
I would have stayed and ridden it out, but the trail to my camp was making tough going for the wheeler....I drift boat fish the Salmon and know they absolutely get hammered out there. You can go down the road a few minutes and nothing....Love that Adirondacks !!!!

When the snow stops falling sideways, maybe I'll be able to get out and measure it... Waist-high drifts across the driveway, and that was just plowed at 7 this AM.
Mark, it's the same at our farm. I grew up there. Back in the 70's, a neighbor had a cut-your-own Christmas tree farm. People would come up to get a tree, they'd be in sneakers and sweatshirts because it was sunny, calm, and warm just 2 or 3 miles away but a few hundred feet lower in elevation. They'd go home and come back (sometimes), dressed appropriately in parkas, heavy gloves and Sorrels; it was always funny to see these same people who had called us liars for talking about the weather conditions getting upset about their neighbors down in the flats not believing THEM about how bad it was just a few miles away. And there was always a tractor at the ready to pull out the cars that would get stuck. Lots of similar stories. Still that way.

I live at 1950 ft...hence the windmills around us. Same here, when this all started Sat afternoon everyone was getting rain in the area except us folks up here. We're proud of our snow totals....

How long is your commute to work Mac? And how many weather systems do you cross?

lol, fun with Google Earth!!! It's actually a distance of 2.01 miles, and an elevation change of 695 feet. After I posted before, I got to wondering if I knew the real numbers.

How long is your commute to work Mac? And how many weather systems do you cross? Its an hour each way AJ....centerville to batavia. So from snow to no snow, 1950 to 892 ft, and I think the same time zone....

I drive from Collins to Clarence and some times I think I drive through three different weather patterns, two for sure.
