By the looks of the pictures,the dogs are pitted where it meets the pan . Replace the dogs and square the pans with a flat file. Also with a bread tie take up room in the pan hole to reduce the side play.

For the sloppy pans, on the post style....
drill out the rivet and replace with a bolt and nut
For the older style ones, you can take a hammer and pound the gap smaller
Some used to wrap with copper wire also

Yup, for muskrat traps that are largely ok except for sloppy pan.....copper wire on either side of pan post (one side MAY do it) will get you where you want, largely..........

Another way to remove slop is to remove pan and file the gap wider, then return to trap and squeeze closed with either a vice or vice grip pliers. I have done this so can attest that it does work.
