I saw that, Ed, about two hours before the phone call that said the NY fisher management plan had been published and thought the same thing.
If a trapper is limited to catching only one fisher, by law or regulation, then how many traps should that trapper set to catch his/her one fisher without fear of harvesting more than one?

Trappers should follow the TPUE measure of dividing out the number of trap nights to catch one fisher. If DEC had it's way that poor girl would be hanging by her thumbs from the yardarm.

Dear Mr. Paintedpaw, if using the TPUE measure you must remember to assume that 70% of the fisher are caught in the first 20% of the season. Therefore your calculation, based off of estimates that may indicate that for the first 6 days you would assume a possible catch and therefore set .089 traps per location. If by chance no harvest is recorded you could apply Appendix X, Table Z , and using figure 3 choose the number of traps appropriate for the final 3 days remaining. Of course your calculations would have to take into consideration the estimated number of chipmunks, trees, land mass and other features in the areas of NY state that DEC chooses?/decides? where suitable habitat exists. Oh and be sure to enjoy the newly sustained crop of fishers, now being managed, for the public, by the NYSDEC . Your on your own trying to figure out how to tag ,report your catch, and provide the carcass for boilogical mutalation, lol.....Regards
PS. and dont forget to mark the exact location of your catches in the handy little book provided by DEC so they can make another harvest density chart (Page 20) to show eveyone in the country. So much for the info being confidential, as promised!
