its all a matter of preference....i myself wouldnt run anywhere near that long of chain....all i run now is 2 swivels,1 each at the end of 9 links of #2 chain.....i stake with 16 inch super stakes.....i myself wouldnt bother with shock springs unless i were useing rebar

im not sure what your saying red ?...when i ran shock springs with earth anchors my setup from the trap to the stake end was @ 30 inchs long,i had a swivel at the base plate, 8 links of #2chain,swivel,inline conner spring, swivel and then 16 inch earth anchor. my setup now is the same minus 1 swivel and the sping which makes the length @ 24 inchs. if your soil condition are like mine theres no way youd ever need to run 2 anchors.....its all i can do to pull mine out with one of night stalkers 4 foot pullers

Lol ya i pull most of mine by holding on and pulling most times if I dont hit a rock I trap corn fields and the edge of them but my set up is a lot smaller then you use to run I cant post pics on here any more its odd but put one swivel on the base plate ring 5 links of #2 chain swivel shock spring then one moe swivel then a 19 in hd Berkshire earth anchor I did have to use 2 earth anchors in some spots it may be over kill but I know I can sleep at night but when I do run 2 I need to dig to China hope this helps u see how I did it better

I agree. Never seen the sense in long chain. Just lets the get a longer lunge to keep pulling. JMO

Red I tried running the shocks I find that it a little more work in bedding the trap plus it lengthends the chain .Also part of me says it something else that can go wrong . Some like longer chain lengths I don't ,pros and cons. Most of all personal preference like traphead said. Take a trap with shock on it make 3or4 set in the back yard see what you think. I run 3 swivels with 2 pieces of 6" chain . This works for me. Good luck

just cant go wrong with 3 swivels..guy asked me one day why i had 3 and he thought it was cost effective and a waste of swivels..i gladly informed him my first caught fox paid for quite a few dozen swivels and without that 3rd swivel i had more losses than you can shake a stick at..even with 2 i kept having tangle ups at the swivel that was hooked to stake..added swivel and never ran into problem after that..i run swivel-3 links #2 machine chain-swivel-3 links chain and then one last swivel which is attached to a 18 in super stake..stakes are pricey but excellent quality havnt broke one in 2 seasons and we have some rocky soil..isnt grassy fields around here..i tried berkshire and never again..bought 2 dozen wolf fangs to try..anyone use these..love putting new things to the test in the rough old dacks..
