I think 2 coil is fine, never had a fox pull-out nor a yote. Some like 4 coil in the winter to pull up out of the ice/snow, also in a hay set to get better grip when there is a chance of hay/debris in the jaw. I've had no issues with either using 2 coil.

The only problem with 4 coiled 550s is pan tension. It is a little bit too heavy for grey fox. You can lower the tension by bending the dog slightly down.

2 coils is fine. I use black walnut hulls or Pete's liquid trap dye.

Been hearing the new MB-550'S are higher pan tension than the advertised 2.5#. Anybody buy ant new ones lately? I heard some of them ease up after clean dye and wax and some dont.
