I can get them at a fair price with my store discount but the shipping is ridiculous. I'm thinking of making some out of half inch plywood. I would cut them going the long way of the grain. I have some wire stretchers that I have rigged up to the buyers specs and was going to use them as a pattern. I just don't have the bucks to buy basswood stretchers. Do any of you guys think I am waisting my time?

I can get push pins or small nails in them. I showed you that stretcher sizing sheet didn't I? If not I'll call you with them. I have the sizing for xl and xxl. There is a post on this fur handling page that has a link to this.

Don't use plywood. You're guaranteed to catch fur in the crossgrain. Nice basswood or WHITE pine. Others, too, but -- go wire before plywood. I made some when I was a kid and they worked more or less, but none were really any good. Made some out of basswood and wow, very nice.

White pine is nice to work with. Most of my wood stretchers are made from white pine . The real knotty boards can leake sap if close to heat. Me and a friend made a truck load of stretchers this summer

Not sure where you are but I picked some up at Zerbie for $4.50. A guy in Orwell makes them from white pine and basswood. His email is bickfordkimball@aol.com. Nice boards and for $4.50 you can't make em.
