My Grandfather passed away a few years ago, leaving behind many traps that he had once used. To me, this is the most interesting one, and I'm happy that it came into my possession. Unfortunately, it has seen better days. The spring moves and is still quite strong. The body is bent and the dog, pan and jaws are rusted together. I don't want to muscle it apart, for fear of damaging it further. I can't make out any markings on the pan. I'm new to trapping myself, but this design is like nothing I've seen. Does anybody know about traps like this?

Wow, thanks a lot! That's great information. It has more sentimental value than anything, but I wish it were in better condition.
I wonder if it could be cleaned up? Just to keep it from rusting into a dusty pile.. I'll have to look into that..
Thanks again, nyrat!

Hello, Submerge it in vinegar for 24 hours and then keep an eye on it to see how it is cleaning up. Once it has reached the desired level of restoration, rinse it off well with water, let dry and spray down with WD-40. The WD-40 will dry to the touch and protect the trap from further rusting.
