Just curious as to what you guys bring on the trap line, as well as some things you use once you trap some fur. I've wanted to trap for years now, but because I've never gotten to go, it would be interesting to know what you guys use and bring. The main animal I can trap down here are coon, so any tips on getting them would be greatly appreciated.

Traps dps. wire, & cutters, Bait, 22/or you could use your walking stick for dispatch. Trapbasket or sled.

A catch pole for sure! Not everything will need to be dispatched.

Catman4, you club them with the walking stick, correct? Exactly where/how hard do you need to hit them to ensure you aren't just bashing a live animal to death?
And catch poles seem to be pretty indispensable on the trap line, I'm definitely going to get one! Any particular one that you use, proratman?

You should dispatch with a 22 cal. when ever possible, not with your walking stick.

I only sometimes use my walking stick it depends on location, it's where you may not be able to discharge a firearm. i have a couple places like this. other wise i use my 22 or 25 cal for that. i also have a 4 foot catch pole for the k9's never really used it for the coon. i would give them a good sharp hit on the bridge of the nose. that works for me.

On that thread a few guys made theirs, of the store bought poles, Ketch-All poles were the most popular.

As an Adirondack beaver trapper I carry an axe, pliers, wire, nails, compass, conibear safety tool, rope, wooden matches in waterproof container, a Bic lighter, a sheath knife, and a beaver skinning knife. Also plastic bags for the castors. I also have a cable carrying tool and usually a camera.I trap away from the roads, all of this stuff is not necessary if you are road trapping.

doesnt require any tool but a drill to make one, i made my walking stick into a catch pole with 3 simple 1/8 inch holes, two at stick base one towards top, (i use 550 cord, parachute cord) one bottom hole run end of line thru and knot the end (anchor), thread running end thru second hole (creating loop) then up walking stick and thru 3rd hole, tie a hand loop, you can even use eyelets to guide cord up stick if so desired, now you open loop to desired size by feeding from the top, slip over critters head, pull your hand loop to desired tension on critter and your good to go (i added a slide lock so i can free up one hand for critter release), works great costs nothing
