Found out this year the belly fur must be used on marten because one of mine was found by a fisher while it was in the trap and the fisher bit a hole in the belly and ate out the organs, this marten later sold at gvta for $13.00

Pretty hard to make a coonskin cap without the belly Seriously though, all of the coats I've seen only use the back so a couple holes in the belly shouldn't downgrade your fur unless extremely damaged

being that the inspection window "taps" into a good percentage of said belly fur, i would venture to guess (yes just my guess) not too terribly important compared to the back side
