Good job....back when I used wire for 'rats I put cloths pins on the sides as well so you don't lose any length

Like wayne said, Good Job.
One more thing you could do to make it easier to put the hooks into the rat is to save a bit of Tail leather on the back and belly side into which to put the hooks so you don't damage the pelt area of the fur.

Question on bottom picture. See how skin is curled around clip? I have had trouble there before. I. Fur dries hard around clip making it difficult to remove with out tearing or 2 hide does not dry properly, stays wet and has a chance to spoil. like the idea of piece of tail left to hook to.
