I'm thinking about taking old car tires and cutting a Large hole in 1 or 2 sides. Place a rock or a board over the top. This would make it dark insipid. Would you consider this a cubby? Think it'll work? Bait it with muskrat.

It will work. You can also build something similar with wood and very thin sheet metal. Would be lighter to carry. I have a couple and they do work. Use 1x6 for sides and sheet metal top. leave a couple openings for traps. Bottom optional.

you could also use rat wire (hardware cloth) to make a tunnel and cover with local grass/debris.
Think about a colony trap with the doors removed..........

The black drain tile works great and is much easier to carry. Dont get caught putting tires in a creek that could be a big ticket

I never used the tire thing. To much work. I used 24" flashing. Painted with rubber under coating. Bought 4 cans for a dollar. No luck yet. I cut a slot in the side for a 110, drilled a hole threw both sides stuck an old arrow threw it to pin it to the ground and trew the bait.
The ground around where I live is loaded with rock not easy digging.
I have not giving up on these I think they will produce.
