so i use wood coon boards to stretch all of mine as of 2 years ago..i bought 8 all from the same supplier and they all say large coon..i use them for all my coons..my local fur buyer never says anything when i put coons up on them regarding the sizes...this year i plan on sending m fur to NAFA and i was wondering if i should get some med,xl,and xxl because i hear they are a little more picky on sizes or whatever especially for coon this year and when i put some of my larger coon on the boards i have they seem like the boards could be wider at the bottom because the fur is real loose and it makes tacking it up harder sometimes..do they make an adjustable coon board anywheres???got a few of those this year for other critters from a friend and they seem like they are just going to work fantastic..well ny input would be great.. thanks Shawn

The preferred NAFA board sizes are listed here on the Forum...even for a smaller or larger 'coon you still want the overall dimentions to be about the same at the shoulder and hips as indicated. I've used skunk boards for smaller 'coon that couldn't be released and even otter boards for really big boar's at times.

For the very large coons, i have put them on boards measuring 9 1/2 inches on the bottom. The rest go on 7 1/2. I believe walleyed has posted about this in the past. The extra width on the big boys grades as canadiann coons and fetches a much better price. Out of my 20 coons, 6 went on the larger size and 5 went as canadian grade. But be careful because if the coon is not large enough the fur will be stretched too far and it will grade a lot lower. One another note, most NY coons lack the desired coloring that NAFA is looking for, so the color grades are generally on the lower side. Good luck.

I have been told by many buyers, pull and stretch every last inch out of your coon, some trappers disagree. I've never had a problem pulling the heck out of them. If you don't get at least 27 inches out of a coon in todays market, it's near worthless price wise.

great info guys thanks alot..think im just going to get a few larger size ones instead of a bunch of different sizes..i just want to get the fur on the back which would be the tail side to stretch wider and not be so clumped together like they are on the boards i got..actually had some fur slip on some big boys because i was pinning it to close together..always geat to hear what everyone has to say though..muchly appreciated.. shawn
