I played around with wire for the first few years and I still use some. However, I have made the switch to wood in the last few years and I think the furs look much fuller and more uniform.

Hi...
I have used both.
The skins go on the wire ones faster.
They are prepared neater on the (properly fitted) wooden ones. The wooden ones also usually allow for more adjustment for various sized furs. They also can be made to order by the trapper, if desired.

The wooden ones also usually allow for more adjustment for various sized furs. They also can be made to order by the trapper, if desired. One of the main purposes of a stretcher, weather it be wood or wire, is to make the pelt a uniform shape. NAFA is very specific in their desired dimensions. All furs, except beaver, are sized by length not width. By changing the width you will run the risk of over-stretching and actually get a lower price for your fur. The way I see it, if you want top dollar for your fur.....make it to the buyers standards. Just my opinion.

NAFA stretcher dimensions are right on this site, in this "fur handling" section.
