Does it matter much which auction houses stretcher dimensions are used ?Seeing is I did well selling to FHA this spring ,I would like to use them but if I sell local and if they deal with NAFA would having a slightly different dimension hurt much ?

I"ve made both and the differences are slight for the most part. I'm not sure it would matter. Just my 2 cents.

I"ve made both and the differences are slight for the most part. I'm not sure it would matter. Just my 2 cents. For instance, with basswood Fox stretchers NAFA says 6" inches at the base and FHA says 5 1/4" inches at the base. I stretch my Grey Fox to the FHA SPECS with 5 1/4" INCH boards and I Stretch my Red Fox to NAFA SPECS with 6" INCH boards. The Greys I am very cautious not to over stretch to help keep the Pelt looking Thicker and Heavier and they mostly ALL grade out as Northern Heavies. I believe Using the narrower 5 1/4" inch board helps me to accomplish this thicker, heavier effect with Greys I think you are more likely to Over Stretch a Grey, and inadvertently thin out the fur than to Over Stretch a Red Fox. IMHO of course. walleyed

Good point Walleyed and absoulutly correct. I do have seperate sizes for reds and grays. Actually my grays and fishers go on the same boards.

IMO, you better start matching up your boards to the auction house specs. Ranch fur is uniform, a buyer knows how many square inches of raw fur he is buying, wild fur, it's a gamble. From my deep contacts at NAFA, I've heard fur not stretched to dimensions will be downgraded in the near future.

All of my patterns came from Fur Harvesters Auction.
