A couple things to think about. Although it has gone out of vogue the last few years according to some DVD guys and some authors, setting sign is never a bad thing.
Another old fashioned idea that I personally think teaches a guy a lot is to try a bit of prebaiting with an edible bait. That too will teach you a lot about locations at various permissions.
Hope this helps.

doubtfull, my land owner doesnt let anybody but family on but i did something for him and gained permission.......so if i see anyone, he told me what to do, "kill them"........lol he is 81 years old and funny as heck.................on another note, i will try to pre-bait but will have to wait until he takes his corn off, and its usally his last place to harvest........alot of coon though

Try and set both places until you can narrow down travel routes better?

There should be a trail on the high ground that overlooks the field and the creek. Everything can be trapped on this trail, if I just wanted K-9 I would set out in the open field visible from the high ground.

as stated i would set on sign , but you also have to remember where there is water there is food, if the banks over look the water i would set up wind a little with a little ldc to get them in the area you want & pre baiting is definatly the way to go,
