"In the Morning, and at the Going down of the Sun, We will remember them"
Today is the anniversary of D-day The Invasion of Europe, during World War II.
Very little news in the paper marking this very important World War II Invasion Battle where a lot of Good men died.

By far the greatest invasion the world had ever seen. The loss of life I can not conceive. With out that invasion, there might not be a free world.

I refer to D-Day almost every day of the year. It saddens me that so many have forgotten and even more have never learned of it. Many thanks to the veterans who fought for freedom. You will always be heros.

I like to thank the families whos loved ones made the ultimate sacrifice......... In any war. The years of pain these people go through can not be forgotten. Sometimes in life, we think we have problems, and then we should remember.

Thanks to all the veterans out there. I actually just finished reading a book on the war-time actions of FDR and Truman throughout WWII that shaped post-war Germany, very good read. I bought it last summer as a down-time book but I ran out of down-time so I picked it back up for this summer.

I am very ashamed to see such little to no coverage of the D Day invasion at Normandy 68 years ago. We owe every one of those that took part a tremendous debt for the sacrifices they made and they changed the course of history! My own father - in - law was in the first wave of gliders that landed behind the German lines in France. God Bless all of them that took part, the thousands that are buried in French cemetaries, and every one of our veterans!

My cousin, Richard Howland was killed on Anzio beach, North Italy. I have never heard one person mention that invasion.

If you guys want to read a great book....read Steven Ambros "D Day" I was in awe of those men.
One other thing....our president never gave so much as an utterance about that day.

I have to tell you guys that there has been very little in the papers over hear either. I think it has all been overshadowed here by the Queens Jubilee. Although I am a Royalist through and through, I too am saddened by the lack of rememberance to the fallen.

My Dad survived Anzio. He never spoke of it until his last week of life then he dumped it all. It spooks me to even type that much, it wasn't pretty. MANY things never told in History books.
Steven Ambrose is a good writer in my opinion. Check out "A Hundred Miles of Bad Roads".
There is at least one combat badge in every generation of my family. No one speaks bad of America at our supper table.
Thank you Vets.

The Tom Hanks movie "Saving Private Ryan" was one of the most emotional films ever made.

My father was shot in Italy. He never taked about it either, but I do remember watching the old show 20th Century with Water Cronkite when I was a kid of troops trying to cross a river or something and he said he was right there. My uncle was with the tanks in South Pacific ,didnt much talk about it either although he was in the papers after being recognized by the President. Another friend of mine put his war story in writting. He only let a few read it as it was island hopping in the South Pacific and very few of them made it through the war. After several years he let me take a copy, after my wife typed it out and made copies, to the World War II museum in Elderd Pa.They were glad to recieve the story. This man still alive was a trapper.

Herm, I pass through Eldred frequently when I'm headed down to my place. I'll have to stop at the WW II museum and check it out. Many people today have no comprehension of WW II, but I remember it even though I was only a kid. Do you ever eat in Spragues in Portville?

I WAS READING THIS THREAD------if you dont mind I would like to answer ---herm--- about Bill Ayers----(skum like him dont belong on this earth)-----I think I have a wright to this openion because all my all uncles serverd in WW11 ---none were killed ---but many were wounded--- and my father went to his grave with Jap. steel in his chest. A good start to putting this country back together would be to THROW OUT THE GARBAGE.

Herm thanks for the tip, I'm headed down next week for the Pa. convention in Clearfield. Bill, I'm in full agreement. We have so much garbage in Washington that it could make you puke. Some of this stuff is so bad that in my opinion it borders on treason!
