Things are certainly looking better than FHA in May But not Quite as good as NAFA in February.
Two lots of buy backs including my top lot.
8 of 17 lots above $10.00, thus far.
We'll see in a bit how it shakes out.
(Looks like a $10.35 average with 2 lots of buy backs.)
They just private treaty sold my section IV swiss-cheese rat for .50 cents so my average is now down to $10.06 Still Happy with these Results.
HIGH: $12.00 LOW: .50 cents AVERAGE: $10.06
Best lot of rats ( 3XL-XXL *I NTH AVG WT ) Still has not sold.

$7 - $8 average rats for the next ten years would be more than perfectly fine

My rats did about the same inc, average with all my top lot ones being bought back .Same happened on Yotes maybe market is getting ready to adjust back somewhat.Mink and fox did a little better than I expected since all my mink were late winter.

I got my info from NAFA website mine were all in the 30s which I consider average since most were early fall.I can live with those prices since with me it is all about the fun of catching them.Yotes need more trapping in my area but most of the girls over here don't like putting them up.Maybe they should learn to do it before they are green bellied.

Bids offered did not cover NAFA's Assumed Valuations so the Rats were "Bought Back"by the auction house to be sold later by Private Treaty or offered at a Future sale.

Where's the thread on the NAFA coyotes?? My one of two coyotes I shipped sold for a dollar, and the other is still welded to it's stretcher board, and un-removable without using tin snips. LOL

I thought I did well on my rats...$11.75 avg at the auction.. Very well, That's the best NAFA average I've heard of from this June Auction. What Kind of numbers did that average originate from ?

It would be great if all I caught was 3XL#I's but I usually get animals that live in the wild and suffer what ever nature throws at them.
Averages that everyone talks about is so difficult to compare, no matter who you sell to unless you talk about same size and quality animal.
As an example at the last NAFA sale I sold 3XL-XXL #I rats for $11.50 3XL-XXL SLT for $10.21 3XL-XXL I-II for $11.00 but I also went all way to the other end with LGE SLT at $7.50 Sml - I-II at $ 8.00
If I happen to catch a larger % of the lower priced rats my average is going to be lower. Nothing to do with put up just happens to be the animal I caught.
Another example a friend of mine catches about the same number of red fox that I do, but his average is usually better than mine. We both wash our fur put up on same boards etc. We also trap the same county, so you wouldn't think the fur quality would be very different. When comparing this year I realized the difference in our fur. He traps right after deer season as I do, but he takes 2 or 3 weeks vacation and is done by mid January. I usually keep right on trapping until 1st week of February until I start getting to many rubbed fox. And when we compared that was the difference, he had very few rubbed fox whereas I had a large percentage because I trapped later than him.
So instead of having a #I fox that averaged $59.00 at the last sale, I get a #II that averaged 34.62. If I had caught that fox 3 weeks earlier I would have had a fatter wallet, But the fur comes when it comes, and although we can control it somewhat, if you are someone who traps the whole season then you will catch animals that are unprime or over prime or damaged.

All my fur sold with the exception of 2 grinners and 1 rat. Averaged $10 on rats. I was surprised about the buybacks with the rats. All the auctions I have looked at sold 100% on rats. Anyone have any idea why this was? Overal, I was happy with the experience and thrilled with the results. First year is officially in the books for me.

Anyone have any idea why this was? Overal, I was happy with the experience and thrilled with the results. First year is officially in the books for me. It was the higher priced, better quality rats that did not sell as these ran into price resistance at the higher end. This trend manifested itself with coyotes, beaver, bobcat, and certain other species as the Chinese were snapping up the lower priced goods and leaving lay the high end stuff for many Fur items. Seems they can still make a garment with damaged goods and turn a better profit by purchasing this lower priced stuff. Paying top dollar for the Top lot goods leave s little profit margin so they choose the lesser quality. This is actually good for the fur trade as it eliminates the bottle neck of junk, and lower end goods that comprise the bulk of what usually sits in Auction warehouses and takes up space and ties up operating capital, which in turn, hurts the market. Most of those Bought back Muskrat will sell soon by private treaty as there is really not enough supply out there to meet current demand and probably not too many more Muskrat available for the year in the pipeline. Recent Negative Financial news with oil prices, stock markets, state of the Euro-economy, etc. of the last few weeks probably didn't help. walleyed

I hope the rat market crashes soon!!! I'm starting to think you might be happier in life if you simply quit trapping rats period, and no longer think about them at all. It would seem to relieve you from much continual angst and stress

So whatever may come my way, I'm going to enjoy the heck out of every possible moment I can, until I can't no more
