Edge habitat is generally good.Anywhere you have two habitat types that meet are generally good.Along the edges of waterways is good as are beaver dams when there is water on both sides of the dam, especially for cats. The best thing to do is set on sign and where they hunt for food.If you see signs of small game like rabbits, partridge ect you will catch predators in those areas at some point.

Everything clt said is true. Cats love beaver ponds, especially active ones. Logging roads, landings, field edges, open spots of sandy soil in brush lots or along logging roads, sand and gravel beds. Cats DO frequent open areas and especially the edges thereof. I've seen more cats, that weren't in traps, out on the ice on beaver ponds in the wide open more than at any other location. However, they really blend in with their surroundings and can disappear in an instant anywhere else, so maybe that's why ;D
bobcattrapper30 - where are you located ? Although a cat is a cat is a cat wherever they may be, location can be a bit different depending on where you trap. I've trapped a lot of cats in TN, GA, MS and here in NY. There are differences and not just state to state but within each state as well. One thing I have found here in the east, if you can find the sign, you can own the cat.............................usually within a few days.
