With my plans of fishing all afternoon being dampened by heavy wind and light rain, I decided to upload some pictures I have taken so far of my stay in North Dakota. The view down the road from the bunkhouse where I live. A "prairie pothole" Almost every one of there pond has a muskrat hut or two on them. I work with the Region 3 director of the North Dakota Trappers Association so I plan on having some nice trapping chats this summer with him. Their annual convention is going to be about an hour and a half from the refuge and is in August so I plan on going. I snuck up on this guy when I was stalking some teal to get a picture. He was very curious to what I was. Where I work More specifically, I work on two islands on the lake. This is the "south island" which has about 15,000 American white pelican nests plus cormorants, herons, and egrets all nest on the island as well. Most of the white dots are pelicans. The "north island" is home to about 1000 gull nests. My job this summer is to inventory how many nests of non-pelican species there are on the island. A blue-winged teal nest A gadwall nest Some Wilson's phalaropes at the refuge. These signs are pretty common. I caught my first northen pike today but did not have my camera handy. If the weather is nicer tomorrow or monday I hope to get back out to the lake. The lakes here are full of walleyes and northen pike. Some have BIG yellow perch, so I have heard. All within a 30 mintue drive of the refuge.

The refuge manager here used to work at Devil's Lake. He also suggested that I try fishing up there. It's 90 miles from here so it might be an entire weekend trip (I brought a tent for such events).

Nice pictures! you will have a summer you won't forget. I missed an opportunity to do something similar when I was in college because I needed to make some money during summer break and I often think about that missd opportunity. Wish you well have fun.

The furthest west I went last weekend was a bit east of you in Lonetree WMA. Definitely some rats there... feedbeds and toilet rocks everywhere, any of the roadside ditches and creeks looked pretty much as pictured below Attachments:
